"For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes."
-Romans 10:4
I want to focus on a ONE word here. You might be thinking, "Christ" is the word he will focus on. Though Christ is the center and focus of this text, it is the word, "end" that draws the attention to Jesus Christ. The greek word for end is telos. The greek word telos has a much deeper meaning than we catch at first glance. Telos literally means "end goal". So as we reflect on our christian walk and consider our perspective on Christ and His placement or priority in our lives, we must ask the question: Is Jesus Christ our end goal? The context of this verse is that Christ is the end purpose of the law in order that He might fulfill the law and give us freedom from the law through His grace and free gift according to Romans 3:21-26.
Every action you make and every thing you do should have Jesus Christ and His glory at the end. We should strive through this life with Christ in sight as the reward for our labor. He should be the purpose behind everything we do and the purpose for our life. He should encompass all things in our life. Colossians 1:15-20 says that Jesus Christ is completely in control of ALL things. The word "all" is used 7 times in that text. If He is completely in control of all things and is sovereign over all, then why do we ignore His presence or His priority in our lives?
My encouragement is that we begin to prioritize our life. Jesus comes first so that He may become our telos, our end goal.
